The Hammers looked to have turned the corner in the relegation battle in February, after a run of results saw them beat Liverpool and Stoke and draw with West Brom and Tottenham, however since March 19 they have lost all five of their games and are now favourites for the drop unless they can arrest their slide.
Looking to avoid a return to the second tier of English football they visited for two seasons between 2003-05, the side are not in good shape as they have midfielders Mark Noble and Gary O'Neil unavailable and doubts over defender Matthew Upson. Indeed, they will likely have to press the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year, Scott Parker, into action (with the help of painkilling injections) as his Achilles injury has flared up again.
West Ham do, however, have the hand of history helping them. At Upton Park, they are unbeaten in 15 meetings with Rovers in all competitions and haven't lost at home to the Lancashire club since April 1994. A trip to Wigan and a final game against Sunderland await on the fixture list, but it could all be virtually over unless they can fashion some kind of result against Rovers in these tough times.
