Bayern Munich are standing by their vice-captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, who lost his temper with a journalist yesterday.
The Germany international verbally insulted a reporter at the pre-match press conference, taking exception to an article his magazine had published last weekend in which Schweinsteiger was labelled a "small chief'' who does not justify such a leading role for club and country.
In a tirade which lasted over 10 minutes, Schweinsteiger insulted the reporter before leaving the press conference, only to be hauled back by the club's media officer to answer questions pertaining to tomorrow's game against Schalke.
Schweinsteiger's behaviour has been condemned by the German media, but he has received the backing of his club.
"For a man with such a sporting curriculum to be derided as a 'small chief' and discredited in this way is unacceptable and it is a cheek,'' said Bayern's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
